This traditional Lakeland cottage has uninterrupted  mountain and valley views looking West and South over Grasmere valley, Loughrigg, Silver Howe, Helm Crag, Greenburn, Far Easedale and Steel Fell. It has its own sunny private cottage garden. The cottage has  a reserved parking place adjacent to the cottage.
This cottage has in 2003 been upgraded  to four stars grading by the English Tourism Council.

The main part of this cottage was originally the down house ( front parlour) to the main farmhouse and dates from circa 1625. The kitchen is a 19th century addition. Geese, chickens and bantams live in the field in front and can all be fed from your cottage windows.  Time it right and you may well see the lambs playing there too!

The farmhouse kitchen featured above has the true farmhouse feel. It is very light and airy and can be extremely sunny in the mornings. It is fully equipped with everything you should require throughout your stay.

The living room enjoys wonderful views and features a traditional Lakeland stone fireplace for burning wood and coal.  The cottage is furnished in traditional style with many old and interesting bygones.

The upper floor has one sunny double bedroom with a much admired traditional style bedroom suite.  All bed linen is provided and the beds are made up ready for you. The adjacent single bedroom  is prettily dressed in yellow and has its own vanity unit with sink.

This cottage has been operating the longest of our three cottages and tends to book up very fast with our regulars, if you have a specific week in mind please let us know the week that you require as soon as you can.
List of current vacancies for this year and next year's prices are at the bottom of this page.

Maps & Walk Plans
Maps and walk plans are loaned with pleasure from our library.  We just ask for a donation towards the Tourism Conversation Partnership which helps to restore the Lakeland's footpaths.

Short Breaks
Our cottages tend to be nearly as popular in winter as they are in summer this means that while we are happy to do short breaks for people they tend to be in short supply. Do give us a ring and see what we can do.  Because of the popularity of these cottages we can only do short breaks at the last minute when available. See below for availability.

  Telephone
Please note that at present there is no reliable reception for mobile phones in all parts of the Lake District.  However our new reception telephone mast does allow Orange and Vodaphone to operate well here. There is also payphone in the Hostel foyer which all guests are welcome to use.

Outdoor Gear/Shopping
Don’t buy your outdoor gear before you come here as the Lake District has the best selection of shops you will find anywhere in Britain.

Extras
We can provide a travel cot and highchair a no extra charge. Please also let us know your requirements when booking.

What if something goes wrong during your stay?
This is not normally a problem as we live on site and we do ask that you let us know as soon as possible so that we can put it right as quickly as possible.  We do ask that guests don't leave it to Saturday morning as we are so busy with the change around that it is difficult to get to the shops or to call in specialists on that day.  We enjoy an excellent relationship with our plumber, electrician and heating engineer and they in turn are usually very quick at coming out in emergencies.  This is unusual in this day and age, so we and our guests are very appreciative of them.

We live on the farm ourselves and manage and maintain the properties personally. We take great care to see  that the properties are cleaned and maintained to a high standard and it is of course very reassuring to our guests that should anything go wrong during your stay we are here to put it right straight away! No absent landlords or agents to battle with!
